Full Screen issues after last nights build? Posted: 2/20/2009 8:01:56 AM | By: Yaggs File Under: Home Page News |
The build I just put up was setup to calculate the locations of the fullscreen buttons and high-res buttons for all resolutions... anyone who is having a problem with full screen please let me know if you have any of the following:
- Does the background for SecondRun NOT fill the the screen?
- Do you have your font size in IE set to a larger font?
- Do you have your video card doing any kind of scaling to compenstate for overscan?
I think the current build addresses MOST of the full screen problems but I will likely be putting in a settings page that will allow you to set an adjustment value for your installation... since I can't seem to get it working flawlessly for ALL installations this will most likley be what has to be done. |

NEW BUILD - Just posted a new build tonight... Posted: 2/19/2009 10:21:12 PM | By: Yaggs File Under: Home Page News |
OK... New build is up... This build changes the following:
- Network menu is now 3 columns (this takes a few more seconds to load! Be patient!)
- Totally new system for auto hi-res and auto full screen... it should now work on all resolutions and all content providers (cbs, hulu, etc) NOTE: Most videos will take at least 30-45 seconds to go full screen! That is due to the fact that many times the flash players are not loaded and on to the movies much before that...
- Added some content from sling.com and fancast.com (Food Network, and Marvel) to test the new full screen functions... I should be able to pull content in from ANY providers website! THIS IS VERY EXCITING! If hulu pulls the plug on us we can still use content from other providers... like cbs, fox, sling, etc.
- Changed the size of the font on the poster view
- Generally cleaned some things up on the back end.
The next release I am going to TRY to have remote control integration all worked out... I needed to get the functions working to put videos in hi-res and in full screen before I could even look at that... hopefully you will be able to use your remote to put the videos full screen and hi-res in the next build, as well as play/pause with the remote!

A Quick Note... Where SecondRun.tv shows up in Media Center Posted: 2/19/2009 8:04:07 AM | By: Yaggs File Under: Home Page News |
I just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up on something as alot of you have posted questions about this and asked me to put in an install option to NOT put SecondRun.tv into the TV + Movies strip on the start menu... I am not really doing it forcefully, that is just how Media Center works... When registering an application in Media Center you need to tell it what type of service it relates to... In the case of SecondRun.tv its obvious that it relates to TV or in Media Center terms (Services\TV)... when telling Media Center that it put it into that category in the More Programs section of Media Center:
Now... Media Center AUTOMATICALLY shows the last registered app in the main start menu strip for that specific category... so when I tell it that SecondRun.tv belongs in the TV category of services it automatically shows it in the TV + Movies strip... people are losing their Media Browser icons or BluRay icons in that strip because SecondRun.tv was install after them... the strip is really just showing you a shortcut to the latest item in that category that was installed. You can still access ALL the installed apps like Media Browser/BluRay, etc in the More Programs section... if you want to put specific items in your start menu then you need to download something to let you move around items in the start menu...

Next build will be easier to navigate... Posted: 2/18/2009 6:12:34 PM | By: Yaggs File Under: Home Page News |
Many of you have already asked about making SecondRun.tv show 2 rows of icons on the network screen... Well... the next build will have 3! I already have that stuff changed... I am also planning on adding "categories" and having a category view so you can view shows by category... there will be another build this week... here is a screenshot of the multi-row network screen:

Boxee losing hulu... where does that leave us? Posted: 2/18/2009 6:03:34 PM | By: Yaggs File Under: Home Page News |
I'm sure many of you might have already heard that Boxee was forced to remove hulu as one of the content providers on their platform. I do not and have never had access to the Boxee beta so I am not sure how it worked but I would imagine that they were directly linking into the video stream or some how making the stream play as a standard video and bypassing the hulu website all together.
All along I have insisted that I wanted to LINK to hulu's content... not provide their content in a totally different format. If you think about what we are doing here we are really just consuming the the RSS feeds (that hulu openly provides) and linking to the episode pages on hulu's website... basically a big link engine... so hopefully that will differentiate us enough from Boxee and be the one thing that keeps our project going in the long run...
The very fact that we are linking to the hulu pages is what makes it difficult for us to put the content in full screen mode and automaticlly set the video to the 480 versions... I am working more on that system (the resolution independent idea just isn't going to work)... hopefully my next build will finally address full screen issues for EVERYONE.
Also... just to be prepaired for the worst I am going to start getting content from more sources... I will likly be going directly to the networks site where I can and also look at some other places as well... I will keep everyone posted... |

Full Screen issues? Posted: 2/17/2009 8:35:24 PM | By: Yaggs File Under: Home Page News |
Leave a comment on this post with your FULL SCREEN resolution!
UPDATE: Don't worry about posting resolutions anymore! I have found where the problem lies and am working on a new solution to do the full screen and high res! There will be a new build in a day or two that has the new full screen functions in it!

New Build is Now Available! Posted: 2/17/2009 6:27:25 PM | By: Yaggs File Under: Home Page News |
I just posted a new build of SecondRun.tv! REMEMBER!!! This is still an early BETA and is not in any way near complete... many of the features are still a work in progress!
- Add new system for putting videos in full screen automatically (there will be a 30 second delay from starting the video to it going full screen) *Note: This feature is resolution independent... I tried to hit all know resolutions! If you have problems let me know your resolution!
- Add automatic selection of the 480p mode on hulu videos *Note: This feature is resolution independent... I tried to hit all know resolutions! If you have problems let me know your resolution!
- Should now bypass the check to make sure you using Vista and allow installation on Windows 7
- Added build number that will check for new updates and *notify* you when a new build is available
- Fixed mouse support for all scrolling menus
- Increased font size on all menus
- Added 3 new favorites menus that allow you to tag shows into any of the 3 favorites lists (you do this by pressing 1, 2, or 3 on your remote or the keyboard... if an item is already in the selected favorites lists pressing the button again will remove it... NOTE: I still need to add icons to designate which shows are in your favorites when your scrolling the lists... thats coming soon...
- Changed the square around the network logos to something that looks more "Media Center"
I will be focusing on content and images for a few days... but I will be posting another new build soon! I will keep plugging away as I have free time... Also... I know many people have offered their help in many different ways... I plan on setting up a forum on this site pretty soon so builds, bugs, etc can all be discussed an organized here...

4000+ Downloads in 4 Days! Posted: 2/17/2009 5:47:44 AM | By: Yaggs File Under: Home Page News |
If anyone out there was skeptical about whether or not a hulu plugin for media center was something people were interested in (like any of us were?) then these numbers should backup our case! I released the inital BETA on Friday afternoon and since then there have been over 4000 downloads of the BETA!
Thanks to everyone who is supporting this effort! I know I have alot of people who have written me directly and I will try my best to get back to everyone... I am just overwhelmed with the amount of interest and support this project has gotten! Again... thanks to everyone and I hope to keep the new builds coming!!! On will be hitting today! |

Sorry for the delay... Favorites... new build will be some time Tuesday... Posted: 2/17/2009 12:50:10 AM | By: Yaggs File Under: Home Page News |
I wanted to get a build out on Monday but thought I had enough time to implement a favorites function into SecondRun.tv before I got the Monday build out... well... it took longer than I thought... I am done with most of the inital favorites implentation I just don't have time tonight to really clean up the build and get it out the door... It should be out some time tomorrow.
The favorites that I am putting in right now (even if I dont end up doing it this way down the road) should make it alot easier to use SecondRun.tv... since there are tons of shows and networks out there right now (and they are not even all being loaded yet) this should really cut down on the browsing and scrolling around all the menus!
A little about how favorites are working right now:
- I have implemented 3 menus of favorites (my thinking is I have one, the wife gets one, and the kids get one).
- Clicking either 1 or 2 or 3 on the keyboard or remote control will either add an item to your favorites or remove it.
- favorites lists are shown at the front of the list of networks (I will most likely be moving them when I have a better idea of the final layout of this thing down the road.
- They are not going to be finished... I still want to put indicators on the boxes to show that they are one or more of your favorites lists.
Here are some screenshots of the favorites implementation right now:
Again... sorry I didn't get the new build out today... but like I said... it should be out some time on Tuesday (which, since its 3:07am right now its really today).
