Full Screen issues after last nights build?
The build I just put up was setup to calculate the locations of the fullscreen buttons and high-res buttons for all resolutions... anyone who is having a problem with full screen please let me know if you have any of the following:
  • Does the background for SecondRun NOT fill the the screen?
  • Do you have your font size in IE set to a larger font?
  • Do you have your video card doing any kind of scaling to compenstate for overscan?
I think the current build addresses MOST of the full screen problems but I will likely be putting in a settings page that will allow you to set an adjustment value for your installation... since I can't seem to get it working flawlessly for ALL installations this will most likley be what has to be done.

On Win7 x64 beta, 1680x1050 display, it seems to have hit the high res button, but not the full screen button. It did seem to have left the mouse pointer over the full screen button...just didn't click it. Just a thought - have you thought about using the 'embed' html instead of the full page? Might provide a more consistent experience.

It dosen't work for me. 640 x 480 4:3 tv. The video will start then the page will scroll down and right looking for the different buttons. I have an odd resolution because it was the ONLY thing that would work with my tv and video card over component outputs. Everything else looks great. I noticed there are very few channels in the last half of the alphabet (after "N" there are only 4 entries). Are you still adding content, like USA for Burn Notice and Psych? the new version has an update checker. Thats great!! However, it says there is an updae aailable but I have the newest version.

Vista SP1 with TVPack, running 1600 X 900 on a 16:9 flat panel. The background for SecondRun 'almost' fills the screen. I can see VMC around the borders. IE is using the standard font size and I am not doing any type of over scaling. Mine runs on the Hulu web page and is not in full screen mode and unlike John, the mouse button is not over the full screen button.

Downloaded the latest release 021909, but it still shows itself as 021709, so it claims there is an update. If there are 3 rows of providers it's 021909 right?

Yaggs, I posted some info on thegreenbutton that may be useful. I am still having the same issure with the resent build. Here is the post: ---------------------------------------------------------- It looks like SR is looking at the Desktop resolution when resizing Hulu's player so you may have to change the resolution of you Desktop to match Media Center. That's what I did and it worked. I initially had 1280x768 for my Desktop and 720p for Media Center because my HDTV HTPC looks better at 720 or 1080 but the dekstop looks like sh*t when MC is not running. Once I changed the Desktop resolution to 1280x720, Hulu started showing up in Fullscreen correctly. I think Yaggs has a fix for this in the upcoming release, but I'm not sure if having different resolutions for MC and Desktop will still be a problem.

There should be a button to put it in full screen incase you want to check the tv giude

The full screen problem is gone for me, 1360x768. One thing that might help is to keep the thumbnail views in cache or force it to stay in cache, I keep freezing up when it retrieves all the thumbnails off your database from the main menu. I have noticed that on the Marvel video while it's in full screen the menu bar does not disappear, I do not know if it is something that can be made to not show or not but this is just a few of the things I have noticed. I like the idea about maybe mapping buttons to full screen off the remote buttons or maybe a way to fill my entire screen off of some of the 4:3 content. Looking forward to the next release Yaggs, Keep up the good work.

No full screen automatically, though you can see that it tries to go. I am scaling my TV through an 8800GTX at 1920x1080i.
Posted: 2/20/2009 12:24:59 PM | By: nomemata | Rating:

Forgot to mention that, I second the idea of it caching thumbnails for the main page. Also where does it get the show backgrounds/posters? From the provider or do you need to cook those up yourself or point it individually for each one? One thing I noticed (for example BSG) is the background screen is "squeezed" on my PC display (1280x1024). Looks good so far though will probably roll it out to the actual HTPC at some point.

Full screen not working under Vista Premium, 1920x1080i. Instead it seems when running any Hulu content that its hitting the dim lighting button. Just a note that my full screen worked fine with the first build you placed out for download last week. Since that build I have not been able to get full screen to work automatically. Does the background for SecondRun NOT fill the the screen? Not sure what you are asking about, background before the video or after it starts playing? Do you have your font size in IE set to a larger font? No Do you have your video card doing any kind of scaling to compenstate for overscan? Nvidia 8500gt is doing overscanning using the nvidia software.

My comments: 1) For Hulu based content: I've logged into Hulu when using SR. So Hulu now uses the default resolution that I've set up in my Hulu preferences (in my case the default is 480p). So now when I select a show that is based on Hulu content, SR opens the show in Hulu and selects full screen and then clicks the resolution option automatically. The result of the resolution selection/click is that it takes me from 480p back to 380p (or whatever the lower res is) when the video is opened up to full screen. I guess the best option for me is to log out from Hulu the next time I open Hulu based content from SR. That way the content will be opened at 380p and then when the resolution selection occurs it will got to 480p. 2) I tried looking at content on CBS via SR. SR doesn't make the CBS player go full screen. 3) SR still defaults to Hulu for content that is available at both the network's website and at Hulu. That's bad news for network's like FX and Fox for example, because those networks deliver their content in HD vs. Hulu's lower resolution 480p delivery. So would I use SR to access content from networks like Fox etc.? Absolutely not. Perhaps this is the current state of affairs because it makes initial development easier, but I hope that it doesn't persist down the road.

works for me if vmc is a maximized window when i launch sr. vista home premium 1440 by 900. if wmc is not a maximized window when clicking on show to play, it will not go full screen.

I know I said this before on TGB, but page up/ page down support needs to be added throughout the application both from the keyboard and the remote with channel up/channel down (how it's implemented throughout MC). The 3 columns view is much better though, thanks for that. Trying to watch South Park crashes the application for me, but then brings up the website anyway, with the message "Full Episodes Now Available: Click to Watch" which of course isn't possible with the remote. I also hope ABC will be brought back soon. I also agree that USA should be brought in as well when you can. And yeah, I had the issue where I had to edit the MSI with Orca again to get it to install on Win7 x64, but other than that, works fine.

It seems that the time between when the application clicks on the definition button in hulu and when it clicks on the full screen button is too short. I'm often still buffering so the full screen doesn't register. It seems to work about 50% of the time for me.

Bingo on the font size being part of the problem. I reset it back to the smaller font (96 DPI) from the 120 DPI I had previously set and now CBS content goes automatically into full screen. At 120 DPI I could see the pointer just miss the full screen button. I prefer the 120 DPI setting so would appreciate the proposed settings page. Thanks for your continuing work.

1920x1080p I have no problems with full screen activation now, my only issue is my video on the main media center PC is choppy (the resolution I'm watching doesn't matter, choppy either way). Can't be my connection, my laptop goes full screen and no choppiness at all.

I've mentioned this before, and the problem persists for me though I believe it is different than the other full screen issues. Basically when I view Hulu through VMC (via SR.tv app) and I click to go full screen the video is zoomed in way to far so that my entire TV displays video, but it is only showing the top left quadrant of the actual Hulu content. If I view Hulu content outside of VMC on a webbrowser directly (both Firefox and IE) everything works perfectly. Any ideas with how I can provide some other information Yaggs?

Well I guess I should have RTFM! I had my font set to 144 DPI rather than the 96 DPI default, and setting it to default did the trick! Now the full screen plays beautifully in VMC, and you can even see the mouse go to click the Hi-Res button, then the Full screen button. Great work Yaggs, thanks again so much for this app!!

Jdubbs23 Is your desktop res and your media center res set different? I just tried something, my desktop and media center are normally set to 1920x1080p, I just changed my desktop res to 1024x768 but did not change my media center and when I ran secondruntv, I got something similar to what you're explaining, half my picture was stretched off screen and I was only able to see the left side of the video. I think my choppy video via secondruntv has to do with trying to deal with such a high resolution. But I don't plan to lower the res, that defeats the purpose of paying the extra money for a high quality tv. Yaggs is doing a great job coming up with new builds with solutions so quick, so I'll be patient and allow him to address this at his own pace.

When attempting to view ER recieved a message that popup blocker had to be diabled but could not use mouse to click OK on the prompt so had to close win 7 media center. I haven't been able to actually watch a show yet in SR since I have my fonts set to 200% for my 61" crt HDTV running at 1920x1080. Clicking the mouse on the full screen control does not seem to work so perhaps the actual control is in a different place than the icon indicates.

Some problems I've noted: 1) Favorites 1 is having problems. One something has been added you can no longer access it. I get the following error messages: 'Invalid application. Unable to launch "SecondRuntv". Disable this application.' Favorites 2 doesn't seem to have this issue. 2) The Cold Case episodes on CBS appear to be linked to preview clips - not the full episodes. 3) Some content in Hulu states that it's intended for mature audiences, which requires you to login. Once logged in your preference take effect (in my case selecting 480p by default). SR will then make a resolution selection and take me back to 380p.

I am also having a problem with the full screen. My display is set to 1920x1080. To answer your questions: Does the background for SecondRun NOT fill the the screen? - Yes, SecondRun DOES fill the screen. Do you have your font size in IE set to a larger font? - No, IE is not set to a larger font, the "Text Size" is set to "Medium". However, on Windows Vista's Personalization control panel, under "Adjust font size (DPI)" I have it set to "Large scale (120 dpi)". This makes the non VMC applications generally easier to read when sitting at the sofa. Do you have your video card doing any kind of scaling to compenstate for overscan? - No

No Do you have your video card doing any kind of scaling to compenstate for overscan? No

It was not working until I changed my font size back to default, then all was well. I would like to go back to having a larger DPI font for easy reading from the couch if support for that gets added. About 95% of the time it goes full screen, on a rare occasion it seems to hover over the full screen spot but not actually click it. On pre-commercials that come on before the show that are short, everything goes smooth. On pre-commercials that are longer, the auto full screens and such do not work since they are not yet clickable when it attempts to do so. Thanks for the work - this is great stuff! I cannot wait until it we can direct it to go to the highest res option for things like Fox rather than Hulus 480p low res version.

Just stumbled across your site and gave it a try. I'm running an Xbox Extender in Media Center. I had the following issues: 1. Unable to access the buttons to go full screen or change any button. 2. No sound.

I added some favorites to the 3 menus, then decided to delete the ones in favs 2 & 3 by selecting the shows again. It said it deleted them (I think there was a spelling mistake too on the message if I remember right), but now the favorite 2 and favorite 3 are corrupt. Every time I select those two links to see if what's in there, the program crashes (I get a message that says this program is invalid, do I want to disable the application). Is there anywhere on my harddrive a corrupt file that I can delete, or do I have to reinstall it again. Otherwise, it's looking great. I can't get YouTube videos to work either.

Great piece of software. The dpi is definitely the problem the full-screen mode was blown way out of proportion when I was using a higher than standard dpi. Afte I reset it to standard, it worked great. Unfortunately, in order for me to use the PC to its best, I must keep the dpi higher. I anxiously await the ability to adjust the dpi setting as you suggest.

Is anyone else having this issue? When I start the secondrun.tv app it appears the app is not taking up the full screen. This continues through all screens in the menu and also when the app takes you to the content's webpage as well. Seems like there is always something like a 2 inch gap on all sides. I believe this is also the reason the full screen and an high res is not working correctly for me as well. I am running VMC x64 at 1920x1080 30hz interlaced or 1080i. Same resolution for desktop and VMC.
Posted: 2/22/2009 8:20:38 PM | By: Robert | Rating:

For anyone else having the issue of the secondrun.tv app not filling the screen and leaving around a 2 inch gap, I have figured out the solution. It appears the Catalyst Control Center app for my video card was doing some underscanning so my desktop would fit on the DLP television. To solve the VMC issue I resetup my TV through VMC using the "monitor" type instead of the "television" type. VMC does some strange underscan/overscan things depending on the device selection. If you are curious there are some good forum threads discussing this behavior. Since the fix, high res and fullscreen are operating perfectly.

Love the new build!!! It would be nice to have the date of the build on the download page so that we know which build we got last. I know there are version numbers but sometimes its easier to know what day the build came out. Keep it up this is the best thing since MYMovies!!
Posted: 2/23/2009 10:03:08 AM | By: Flan | Rating:

Why not just pass the "f" key to go fullscreen instead of trying to click on the right spot on everyones screen? Note that it will only enter fullscreen so you can pass it multiple times without problems (say every 5 seconds). Also the high res setting is redundant since you can set that for your hulu account.

I also download the latest, but it still tells me there's an update available. Haven't tried to uninstall/reinstall yet. One issue, when I watch full screen (1900x1080: looks awesome!), my screen blank isn't disabled. Need to hit my remote every 20 minutes.

I am still having issues with full screen. I am using dual screens both res. set to 1280x720. I believe what is happening is when the secondrun tries to click on the full screen button it tries to do it on the primary monitor not the secondary where VMC is running. I'm not sure how to fix this issue.

Yaggs. First off Bravo. This is a wonderfully professional looking plugin. I too though am having full screen issues. I think this is due to my desktop resolution is not set the same as MC. When I set desktop to 1080 everything works perfectly. But then I can not see anything in PC only mode from my couch. A settings screen would be much appriciated. Stefan

This is a great first release. It works as intended on my HTPC with HD Monitor but on my Linksys extender I am not getting full screen or sound as of yet. I will continue to play with the settings to see if I can provide more details.

I was having the problem (lack of full screen + lack of 480P play). Yesterday, I adjusted my MCE resolution by going through the TV setup again. I have a Samsung 42" DLP TV. This time, when going through the TV setup - I told Media Center I had a monitor instead of a TV. When I did that - it gave me an option to choose 1280 x 720, which I did. Those two changes fixed the issue for me - which lends credibility to the idea that it could be an overscan issue. Those of you that are having problems - try telling Media Center that you have a monitor instead of a TV and reset your resolution; and see if that works.

I originally had my desktop set at 1920x1080i and fonts set to 200%. Reset fonts to normal but have to set desktop to 720x480p to see anything. Media Center is set at 1920x1080 and finally got into full screen but it appears to be about 4x size with the Hulu pause button in the bottom right corner of the screen. Just as a side note..vmcNetflix is displaying properly in full screen mode.

Installed the latest release 021909, but shows up as 021709, update available. Deleted and installed several times and no change. Screen shows three rows of titles, but no full screen. Clicking on full screen manually only fills the top 3/4 of the screen. I,m in need of some help.

I've noticed that if my desktop is running a different resolution than Media Center, that visualization (while playing music) either don't fill the whole screen, or are cropped. I think the key is to have Media Center and your desktop both at the same resolution.

Great app... yeah it still says version 021709 with the 021909 download. On my machine it wont go to full screen automatically... it just open up the hulu website with the video playing I can put it in full screen and hi res manually by clicking on the buttons but it isnt automatic. Is there a settings tab for SecondRun.tv app? help would be appreciated... my media center remote is on its way. BTW Also I'm using my HDTV as a second monitor via an HDMI output.
